India's Excavator Market
India's infrastructure push under the PM Gati Shakti programme and NHAI's 25,000 km highway expansion has created one of the world's fastest-growing construction equipment markets. Excavators are in sustained demand across road construction, building excavation, mining (Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh), and urban drainage projects.
India permits the import of used excavators subject to a key condition: the machine must have a minimum 5 years remaining useful life, certified by a DGFT-recognised inspection agency. We arrange Bureau Veritas or SGS certification as standard for all India-bound shipments — this certificate is mandatory for customs clearance.
Lower-hour machines (6,000–10,000 hours) are preferred for India to comfortably satisfy the residual life requirement. Total landed cost in India includes ~25–28% effective duty (basic customs duty + IGST + surcharges) on the CIF value — IGST is recoverable as input tax credit for GST-registered businesses.
